MSW’ 16, International Practice Pathway Fellow

Sandra is a first-year student in the Master Social Welfare program. Her focus is on mental health, children, adolescents, and families. She graduated from California State University, Northridge with a BA in Psychology. Prior to starting UCLA, she worked as a counselor and a case manager at two non-profit agencies within Long Beach and South Los Angeles.

As part of the IPP program, she will be traveling to the Dominican Republic for a summer internship. I will participate in data collection for the Center for Aids Research (CFAR) Dominican MSM Sex Workers Study conducted in partnership with the Instituto de Sexualidad Humana (ISH). She will work alongside a research team led by Dr. Ian Holloway. Their focus will be to assess the structure and composition of Dominican MSM sex workers’ personal networks and data collection. The overall goal of this research project is on prevention of  HIV transmission among vulnerable populations.
