URBN PL 219: Special Topics in Built Environment: Designing Urban Climate Change Adaptation

Quarter: Winter 2022
Instructor: Goh

Study of conceptual terrains of urban climate change adaptation through lens of designing urban spatial interventions in context of climate change: to question issues such as political economy of environmental change, relationship between infrastructural and natural, and networks of actors and institutions in climate change planning. Review of relevant fields of literature, including urban ecological design and sustainable urbanism, urban political ecology, urban sociotechnical change, and multiple conceptualizations of resilience--ecological, psychological, and material. Study grounds conceptual discussion with cases of recent and ongoing examples of adaptation design projects across global South and North.
