Urban Planning 239: Practice and Methods in International Planning

Introduction to basic practices and methods that have evolved within international development practice in global south, with particular focus on complex relations between professional practice and diversity of contexts. Primary goal is to learn methods and tools of planners in international development practice. Approach recognizes that methods and tools function within complex relations of power associated with international development. Study situates practices and methods within experiences of international development; uses some of those methods and practices; and critically assesses role of methods in relations of inequality and exclusion. Secondary goal is to develop critical understanding of principal themes, sectors, practices, and debates in contested and loosely defined field known as international development.
