MSW 16, GPA Certificate: Global Health & Social Services

Originally from Orlando, Florida, I went to the University of Florida for my undergraduate degree where I studied Psychology. Upon graduating in 2012, I spent 7 months working in different parts of Tanzania and South Africa. My experiences abroad were incredible, and extremely influential in my decision to pursue a career in social work. After returning back to the United States, I moved out to Los Angeles to begin my career. My first position was as a Case Manager at the Los Angeles Child Guidance Clinic in South LA. After a year at LACGC, I made the decision to pursue my Masters in Social welfare and found myself as a Bruin.

In the Global Public Affairs program, I have chosen Global Health and Social Services as my main point of focus. As an MSW student with an interest in macro projects (policy, program development, advocacy), I would like to work on establishing a global mental health system in much the same way that healthcare is being established. Healthcare has clearly shifted to a preventative model, and I think that mental health should follow in suit.
