Cecilia S. Choi is the U.S. State Department’s Diplomat in Residence for Southern California, Hawaii and Nevada.  A visiting fellow at UCLA, she is responsible for recruiting talent to pursue a career in public service in global affairs. Choi was the director of trade and investment at the National Security Council serving under the Obama and Trump administrations.  She advised on tariffs, trade agreements and U.S. export promotion.  Choi was the deputy director in the State Department’s Bureau of Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs, where she promoted innovation to address environment challenges. She also served as the food safety adviser at the Bureau of Economic and Business Affairs, promoting U.S. agriculture.

Mr. Alfred Nakatsuma has dedicated his career to international development with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). He is a member of the Senior Foreign Service, and served USAID missions in Bolivia, Guatemala, Indonesia, Philippines, the Regional Asia mission in Bangkok, and in Washington DC Headquarters. Prior to his current position as USAID Development Diplomat in Residence (DDIR), he was the Director of USAID/Asia’s Regional Environment Office where he oversaw US foreign assistance for environmental activities in 24 countries.

At 44 Jeffrey became a Peace Corps Volunteer in Ukraine working with non-profits. He has a B.A. in Psychology from George Washington University and a M.B.A. with a focus in non-profit management from the American Jewish University. He is an avid traveler and has been to more than 50 countries.
