Introducing the student bloggers


The Global Public Affairs initiative at UCLA Luskin has awarded seven students fellowships to participate in internships across the globe this summer. The internship opportunities are via the initiative’s International Practice Pathway program which funds community development and grassroots or globalization fieldwork placements.

The students will be sharing their experiences on this blog. Here is a list of the students and where they are going:

  • Jonathan Slakey, Public Policy: Association of Relief Volunteers in Andhara Pradesh, India
  • Marianne Chen, Social Welfare: Shanghai Children’s Medical Center or Shanghai East Medical Center in Shanghai, China
  • Kana Kudo, Urban Planning: Planning Authority in Lusaka, Zambia
  • Katie Olson-Kenny, Urban Planning: Partnership of Philippine Support Service Agencies Inc. in Manila and Coron, The Philippines
  • Christina Metz, Social Welfare: Shakti Vahini or STOP in Delhi, India
  • Phoebe Brauer, Urban Planning: ActionAid International in Yangon, Myanmar
  • Evelyn Ferreira, Urban Planning: SaciWATERs in Hyderabad, India

In addition, five Urban Planning students will be traveling to China for summer studies:

  • Laura Krawczyk, Sandra Caballero and Graham Pugh will be studying at the China Academy of Urban Planning and Design in Beijing, China
  • Erica Lee and Melody Wu will attend Chengdu Institute of Planning and Design in Chengdu, China

Social Welfare student Jon Baskin will travel to Canada on the Dr. Edward Hillebrand Fellowship for Canadian Studies.
